In June 2024, fans of V (뷔) of BTS lit up a bus shelter in Yongsan, Seoul, with a single tall design. The screen reads "11TH ANNIVERSARY" under a row of dates, 20130613 to 20240613, and is signed "AWESOME TAETAE". This BTS V anniversary ad was photographed at night on 1 June 2024, and the stop's name board is in the pictures, so for once we can say exactly where it stood.

Where was the ad displayed?

The board on the shelter reads "용산세무서 Yongsan Tax Office (정류소 ID : 03-261)". "정류소 ID" means stop ID. An arrow on the same board points toward "이촌역" (Ichon Station).

The screen is set into the end of the shelter, in an upright frame. Above it is a sign with a plane symbol and the words "공항버스 AIRPORT BUS". A slim blue pillar on the corner repeats the stop name from top to bottom. Next to the screen are route diagrams headed 400 and 502, and then a bench under the roof. Behind the shelter there is a low wall with a pale fence.

What did the ad look like?

The design is one portrait, top to bottom. V stands at a microphone on a stand, in a navy pinstripe jacket, with one hand wrapped round a red microphone and an in-ear monitor in place. The background runs from clear sky blue at the top to violet at the bottom, and large soap bubbles float at the edges.

The text is stacked in the lower third:

  • A thin line of spaced digits: "20130613-20240613".
  • The headline "11TH ANNIVERSARY" in wide block capitals. The "11" is solid white and the "TH" beside it is drawn in outline.
  • A Korean line, "태형이를 만나 행운이야", followed by a four-leaf clover. It means roughly "We are lucky to have met Taehyung".
  • The credit "AWESOME TAETAE" in small capitals at the foot.

The artwork gives the two dates and the number eleven, and nothing more. It does not say what the anniversary marks, so we do not add a label of our own.

When did it run?

The photos were taken on 1 June 2024, a little before half past one in the morning. That is twelve days before the second date in the design, 13 June. The screen was already showing the ad that night. We do not know the first and last days of the booking, and we have left those fields blank.

Who organized it?

The only credit is the line at the bottom of the screen, "AWESOME TAETAE". We quote it as it appears and know nothing else about the people who arranged the ad.

What is a bus shelter digital screen ad?

Many bus shelters in Seoul have an advertising panel at one end. On some, the panel is a digital screen instead of a printed sheet. It faces people waiting on the bench and anyone walking along the pavement, and it stays lit after dark.

These photos show why the timing of a visit matters. At night there is no glare on the glass, and the colours come through cleanly. The small credit line can be read from the kerb. Fans who plan to photograph their own ad may find the evening the easiest time.

The tall shape also guides the layout. A standing figure fills it naturally, and short lines of text fit the width without shrinking. A long sentence would need small type; this design keeps to a number, one word and one short line.

How can fans overseas place a similar ad in Korea?

You do not need to be in Seoul to book a shelter screen. The steps are:

  1. Choose the occasion and the date. An anniversary design often prints the date itself, as this one does.
  2. Decide on the medium and the neighbourhood: a bus shelter screen, a subway station, a city bus or another format.
  3. Get the message and the photo ready, and make sure you have the right to use the photo.
  4. Write to us with the idea. We will come back with the options that are open for your dates.

Shelter positions in a given neighbourhood are few, so an early enquiry gives you more of them to pick from.
