Fans in China placed a set of birthday ads for Baekhyun (백현) of EXO on the platform screen doors at Olympic Park Station in Seoul. Every panel says "백현아 생일 축하해" ("Happy birthday, Baekhyun") with the date "0506", and every panel is signed "중국백현바". The ads are filed in our 2023 archive. Here is how the set was built and how fans abroad can plan one.
Where was the ad displayed?
Our photos are filed under Olympic Park Station on Line 5, in the screen door folders. We count eight positions carrying this ad along the platform. In the photos, the direction sign above the doors points towards Dunchon-dong.
Each ad sits in a lit frame on the glass wall between two sets of doors, at the height of a standing passenger.
We do not have the dates the ads ran, so those fields are empty.
What did the ad look like?
All the panels share one system. There is a large black oval in the middle, a cut-out photo of Baekhyun in front of it, the Korean greeting in bold cream letters, and "0506" inside a small coloured oval. His name appears several times as "BAEK HYUN", and the short form "BBH" sits in a corner. A round stamp with a drawing of a birthday cake is placed near the photo.
What changes is the colour and the photo. One panel fades from coral to yellow, one from sky blue to pale yellow, one is pale green, one soft pink, one pink to blue. Each has a different photo and a different headline, such as "HAPPY BAEKHYUN DAY", "HAPPY BBH DAY" or simply his name.
Each panel also has its own short English message in small capitals. One reads "WISH YOU TO CHASE YOUR OWN PASSION EVERY YEAR." Another says "WE ARE HERE TO HAVE EVERY BIRTHDAY WITH YOU IN THE FUTURE." A third says "WE WILL ALWAYS STAY BY YOUR SIDE LIKE THE DESTINY."
Who organized it?
A small rounded label on every panel reads "중국백현바", which means "China Baekhyun Bar". That is the name as printed in Korean on the ads. We do not know more about the group than that.
What is a subway screen door ad?
Screen doors are the glass walls and sliding doors between the platform and the track. The fixed sections between the doors hold framed ads, and passengers stand facing them while they wait for a train.
A set like this uses the platform as a gallery. People waiting at different doors each see a different panel, and someone walking the length of the platform sees them all. Keeping one layout and changing only the colour and photo makes the panels easy to recognize as one project.
How can fans overseas place a similar ad in Korea?
A series takes a little more preparation than a single panel, but the steps are the same:
- Decide the occasion and the date.
- Choose the medium and the station: screen doors along a platform, a lightbox, digital screens or a bus. Think about how many positions you would like.
- Prepare the designs and messages, and confirm that you have the right to use each photo.
- Send us your plan. We will reply with the options that are open for your dates.
For a set, agree on one template first and then fill in the photos. It saves time when the artwork is checked.
